Abstract

The relationship between health literacy and self-care ability on the quality of life of elderly people in Bojnord, 1395. Introduction: Global growth of the elderly and quality of life are one of the most important issues in today's age in health care. Health literacy is one of the factors that can affect the health of the elderly and his definition of quality of life. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between health literacy and self-care ability with elderly quality of life in Bojnourd in 1395. Materials and Method: This is an analytic-correlational study. A multistage cluster sampling method, 180 elderly, was randomly recorded in Bojnord. The data collection tool was SF12 quality of life questionnaire, health literacy of the elderly. Data was entered into SPSS 16 software. The findings are presented using descriptive indexes, comparison of statistics and correlation coefficient and regression analysis between variables. Results: The results showed that the average health literacy was 69.76 ± 15.05 and the mean of self-care was 65.44 ± 6.23 and the mean of quality of life was 26.02 ± 6/12. 4/4% of the research units had good quality of life, 60% had a moderate quality of life, and 35.6% had poor quality of life. There was a significant relationship between quality of life and health literacy (p <0.001), but there was not a significant relationship between quality of life and self-care ability (p = 0.055). Education after health literacy had the greatest impact on quality of life. Discassion: This study shows the importance of health literacy and its necessity in improving the quality of life of the elderly. As age grows, educational and health planning can have a significant impact on improving health literacy, elderly attention to screening, and increasing self-care.
