Abstract
Title: Health status of the elderly in Sabzevar, 2017 Abstract Aim and background: The issue of aging, in general, has become one of the most controversial issues, both in the field of research and decision-making institutions in recent years and findings suggest that 77.4% of the elderly over the age of 60 have reported at least one chronic illness. This study aimed to evaluate the situation of the elderly in Sabzevar, which there has been no detailed information about it so far. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive study. The statistical population of this study consisted of 400 elderly people aged 60 years and over in Sabzevar who were selected from 6 health centers and two nursing homes using a prorata method (parents). Data were collected through two demographic information questionnaires, HUI3 and interviews. To analyze the findings, STSTA software, descriptive statistics, chi-square and Fisher tests have been used. Results: According to the findings, among the 400 elderly participants, 183 participants (45.8%) were male and 217 (54.3%) were female and the average age of the elderly was 71 ± 3.9. In terms of overall level of health, 5.8% of the elderly were in high level and 67% in poor condition and there was a significant relationship between the level of health of the elderly with gender, age, education, occupation and chronic diseases (P-Value <0.001). Conclusion: The results showed that the elderly, women, alone elderly, the unemployed and the elderly who reported having chronic diseases were at a lower level in terms of health status.
