Abstract

Background: hospitalizing in an intensive care unit causes anxiety for both patients and their family members. The negative consequences of anxiety on the treatment of patients is undeniable. Researchers believe the correct decision to be made at the time of the incidence is the main concern due to the absence or lack of awareness about the disease and psychological support and participation in patient care are effective in reducing anxiety. Objective: This study aimed to compare the effect of "family participation in care" with "awareness support" on anxiety of family members of patients in the intensive care unit of Sajadiyeh hospital, Razavi Khorasan Methods: In this study, doing the research has been based on clinical trials. 96 samples have been determined and they all comply with criteria defined by convenience sampling as well as research environmental characteristics. After random assignment of subjects based on randomization software in both groups (A and B) A "family involvement in patient care" 48 people, and "B" awareness support of the family ", 48 people were divided. The study field is Sajadieh Hospital of Torbat Jam. On the second day and after reception both groups receive the Anxiety Inventory (STAI) to complete. In group A, according to the training of the researcher the basics of participation in the plan of care is introduced and they participate in the treatment plan daily. Group B after introduction tour during which they get familiar with daily the intensive care unit they agree to reach the researcher in case of any question relevant to the care .Both groups visit their patients in the traditional way. Findings: The findings show that information support plays a significant role in reducing anxiety among the families whose patient is cared in the intensive unit care .The survey also showed that participation in the care of these patients can reduce state and trait anxiety. In other words, information support could only reduce anxiety. But the participation of the caregivers could both significantly reduce the state and trait anxiety.
