Abstract
Title: The Association between Iron Deficiency Anemia and Simple Febrile Seizure in children aged 6 months to 6 years that admitted in Heshmatye Hospital of Sabzevar Background: Febrile seizure is among the most common convulsion disorders in children, which strikes 2% to 5% of children or 4/8 of each 1000 children every year.the reasons of this condition are unknown but several theories, such as iron deficiency anemia have been proposed as the pathogenesis of this condition. Method: This is a case – control study in 60 of children aged 6 months to 6 years old who have a simple fever and seizure in the pediatric ward with the 60 children who are admitted at the same time with seizure – free fever entered into the study from October 2017 to April 2018 in Heshmatye Hospital of Sabzevar. From all children, 5cc blood samples were taken after improvement of the fever, and Complete cell count and Serum Iron, Ferritin and TIBC were launched. Results: Overall,The patients of two groups were most commonly seen in the 12-23 months age group and the control group consisted of 34% boys and the case group consisted of 35% boys.The most reason of admittion of control group was gastroenteritis and case group was upper respiratory infection.mean of Hb and Hct of case group were 11/05 and 33/7 and in the control group were 11/22 and 34/08.Mean of ferritin and Serum Iron in case group more than control group but there was no significant difference in TIBC level between two groups.In this study, the incidence of iron-deficiency anemia in the febrile convulsion group was less than the control group. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that although iron deficiency anemia was not common among febrile seizure patients and iron deficiency did not have a predisposing role in febrile seizure and so we suggest a prospective case control follow up study in larger samples.
