Abstract

The Impact of Emotional Intelligence Training on Reducing Anxiety of Practitioner Nurses in Sabzevar Abstract: Background& objective: Hospitals environments are full of anxiety for the staff, especially nurses. Anxiety can lead to burn out and reduce the working efficiency. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of emotional intelligence components training on the anxiety levels of nurses working in hospitals of Sabzevar. Materials& Methods: In this study, 135 practitioner nurses working in Sabzevar”s hospitals were enrolled after completion of informed consent. and then randomly were assigned to intervention and control groups. The samples were completed demographic, Emotional Intelligence ( Bar-One) and Spiel-Berger’s Situational and Characteristic anxiety questionnaires. Then the components of emotional intelligence were trained for intervention group. In termination of training, questionnaires were completed again by both groups and analyzed by T-test and non-parametrical and Monte Carlo tests and p<0.05 considered as significant level. Results: Our findings showed that emotional intelligence scores at the beginning of the study in intervention and control groups, respectively were, 319.06 ± 34.02and 333.76 ± 31.62, and after the intervention was, 350.11 ± 29.67 and 330.49± 43.84. The amount of the total anxiety of the case group before the intervention was, 84.95 ± 15.76 and in the control group was 77.61 ± 13.77, and after the intervention in the case group was 72.98 ± 13.55and in the control group was 79.52 ± 15.68.This difference was statistically significant (p <0.001). Conclusion: Training of Emotional intelligence components causes anxiety reduction in nurses. Key words: emotional intelligence, Situational anxiety, Characteristic anxiety, Nurses, Training
