Abstract
Title: Effectiveness of topical cefazolin solution versus normal saline at reducing the infection incision cesarean Introduction: After bleeding, infection is the most common complication after cesarean section and it can increase the incidence of complications and mortality in patients. Therefore, it is necessary to find a way to cure this disease. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of topical cefazolin solution in comparison with normal saline in decreasing cesarean section infection. Materials and Method: This study was performed on 108 patients undergoing cesarean section surgery (36 patients in group 300 cc of cefazolin solution, 36 in 300 cc normal saline and 36 in control group). Patients were randomly assigned into three groups drugs were prescribed after surgery and complications of the wound were recorded in patients. Chi-square and ANOVA tests were used to compare the data. Results: The results of our study showed that the mean score of edema in the cefazolin group was lower than the other groups (0.08 versus 0.33 and 0.44) (P = 0.002), and the mean score of bruising in the cefazolin group was less than other groups were (0.11 vs. 0.44 and 0.22) (P = 0.014). The mean score of pain was also lower in cefazolin group than in other groups (4.75 vs. 5.6 and 5.02) (P = 0.047). However, no significant difference was seen between the three groups in relation to other variables such as redness, secretion and two-edges of the wound (P> 0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate the beneficial effect of administration of cefazolin on reducing infections and complications of surgical incision. Therefore, in patients after cesarean section, this solution should be used to reduce the wound infection. Keywords: Cefazolin, Caesarean section, Normal saline, Wound infection
