Abstract
Effectiveness of Education based on self-care needs on quality of life of patients with heart failure and their caregivers Mansooreh fathani , Monavar Afzal Aghaee , Moosarreza Tadayonfar Abstract: Background: Heart failure is a chronic and progressive disease, not only for the patient but also for his family, creating serious challenges that affect their quality of life. Patients who are trained of self care in the presence of their family to be more self-care and in addition to the positive impact on the quality of life for patients, caregivers also has a positive impact on various aspects of quality of life. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of education on self-care needs on quality of life of patients with heart failure and their caregivers. Materials and Methods: This case-control trial of 120 patients with heart failure and their caregivers in hospital cardiac Ghaem Mashhad in 93 randomly divided into two groups, control (n= 60) and intervention groups(n= 60). Intervention group, in addition to normal education, education program based self-care needs and the control group received routine training. Data collection is the SF-36 quality of life questionnaire at baseline and one month after the intervention was completed by both groups. To analyze the data, the software spss (version=16) statistical tests and analysis (Chi-Square, Fisher Exact Test, Mann Whitney U, Independent T Test ، Paired T Test and Wilcoxon) was used 95 confidence interval percent. Results: Findings showed that the patients mean age was 57/33± 9/96 and caregivers 42/45± 11/50 years. At baseline between the two groups in terms of demographic characteristics, history of diseases and 8 dimensions of quality of life was not statistically significant(p > 0/05). After the educational intervention quality of life for patients and caregivers in the intervention group had a statistically significant difference(p < 0/001), while this difference was not significant in the control group. Conclusions: Self care needs-based training can improve the quality of life of patients with heart failure and their caregivers.
