Abstract

Background Gallstone is a digestive disease. A high percent of general population of community are caught this disease and majority of them don’t have any symptoms. In addition asymptomatic gallstones have dangerous troubles especially for diabetics.Half of hemodialysis patients are diabetics, so early diagnosis of gallstones would prevent dangerous troubles and help its recovery. Due to the results of previous studies about the prevalence of gallstones on the dialysis patients were incoherent, we decides to study the prevalence of gallstones on the dialysis patients of Sabzevar. Methods In this temporary study, 60-hemodialysis patient’s sonograms in Vasaei hospital of Sabzevar were analyzed for gallstones. Results Altogether 60 people underwent ultrasonography and 9 men of 38 male patients (6.23%) and 8 of 22 female patients (36.36%) had gallstones. Results suggest that gallstone in hemodialysis patients who are older than 60 years is more than others and it’s about 17%. Gallstone in hemodialysis non diabetics is more than diabetics and its about 25%. Patients who have been on dialysis less than 8 hours a week for about 2-3 years its more than other patients and it’s about 11.7%. Patients with high blood pressure are more contracted to this disease and it’s about 21.6%. Conclusion Dialysis patients in Vasaei hospital of Sabzevar are the most prevalent group in comparison with other patients around the world in other studies. According to this study and the amount of calculated p-value there is no significant correlation among other factors such as age, sex and duration of dialysis.
