Abstract
A Survey on the Effects of the Pender's Health Promotion Model on promotion of the health volunteer's Physical Activity in Torbat-Jam(2015) Abstract: A sedentary lifestyle and lack of physical activity as a risk factor for several diseases and is known as one of the main risk factors for heart disease that are modifiable. This study examined the impact of health promotion model-based intervention on physical activity in healthy volunteers in Torbat city. Instrument & Methods: This study was a before and after randomized controlled conducted on 80 volunteers health and health centers in urban and rural city of Torbat-jam that the sampling multistage random into two groups, intervention (n = 40) and control (n=40) in2015. To collect information, a questionnaire was developed based on Pender's Health Promotion Model in the field of physical activity. According to information obtained from the pre-test, Educational programs carried out for intervention group. 3 months after intervention, using the same initial questionnaire, collected in two groups and data was analyzed using SAS and SPSS 16 software and GEE , X 2 , T-test, regression analysis , anova and Analysis of variance with repeated measures. Findings: The mean age of participants was 25±0.2 years. 16.3% had a college degree. Results showed that 71% of participants hadnot good physical activity before the intervention(P=0.001). Lack of access to sports facilities, high cost, lack of time and fatigue and impatience were as the most important barriers to physical activity before the intervention. Most of participants did not know their family members (parents, spouse, etc.), coach and family physicians as pattern and social support for physical activity. There was a significant correlation between physical activity and health promotion model variables such as benefits, perceived barriers, self-efficacy and commitment to the plan, the related affect and situational influences(P≤0.01). Some of the Pender's health promotion model constructs such as perceived barriers, self-efficacy, activity related affect and situational influences could predict the behavior of physical activity. Self-efficacy and sense of behavior, predicted about 30 percent of the variance in physical activity behavior(P≤0.05). intervention group performed better in physical activity than the control group in 3 months after the end of the training program(P≤0.05). Conclusion: Educational program based on Pender's health promotion model is effective in improving physical activity in health volunteers.
