Abstract
The comparison of the healing effects of nano-silver spray dressing and silver sulfadiazine dressing on the second degree burns of patients hospitalized in the Burn ward of Vasei Hospital at Sabzevar, in 1395. Introduction: The recent scientific advances have made nano-silver particles, which can readily penetrate into bacteria and microbes to destroy them, more accessible. The purpose of the present study was to compare the positive effects of nano-silver spray dressing and silver sulfadiazine dressing in healing second-degree burns. Methods and materials: This clinical trial study was performed on 21 patients suffering from second degree burns, through an accessible sampling procedure. The purpose of the present study was to compare the healing effects of silver nano spray and silver sulfadiazine on second-degree burns. The subjected were selected if they had relatively large burns with equal depth and size on one limb or two limbs (parts) of their body. Both dressing types were used for every patient so that all extraneous factors could be controlled. The Bates-and- Jonson instrument was used to measure all the relevant parameters of the burns including size, depth, edge condition, injury dndemining, necrotic tissue type, necrotic tissue amount, the color of the skin surrounding the wound, eczema type, eczema amount, peripheral tissue edema, peripheral tissue induration, granulated tissues, and epithelialization on the first, third, seventh, fourteenth, and twenty first days. The collected data were analyzed through SPSS-16 software, using a generalized statistical linear model. Findings: The results of the descriptive statistics showed that the subjects of the study had an average age of 38.4±12.8 with a BMI of 24.6±2.2. Moreover, 19 percent of the subjects were male and the remaining 81 percent were 81 percent. In addition, in the group with sterile-gauze dressing and nano-silver spray, the average improvement condition of the burns at the beginning of the study was 32.05±2.12 while at the end of the twenty first day it increased to 13.95±1.68. However, in the group treated with silver sulfadiazine dressing the improvement condition of the burns on the first day was measured to be 32.24±2.77 while on the twenty first day it reduced to 14.52±2.46. However, the results of the statistical tests run on the data revealed no significantly meaningful difference between the two groups (p=0.87). Conclusion: the results of the present study suggested that both dressing methods are equally effective in the treatment of burns. However, it was shown that treatment with nano-spray dressing is less painful and less costly compared to the other treatment option. So, it seems that nano-spray dressing method is preferable over other methods in the treatment of first degree burns which are usually associated with higher levels of pain.
