Abstract

Backgrand:Thyroid gland is one of the important endocrine glands that its metabolic hormones (T3, T4) have important roles in the metabolism of other parts of the body. Thyroid function is changed in many diseases. Kidney has important role in metabolism and destruction of several thyroid hormones. Impaired kidney function can lead to physiological disorders of the thyroid gland. It was decided to evaluate the prevalence of the disorder in patients undergoing chronic haemodialysis in the VASEI hospital of sabzevar in year 1394, because thyroid dysfunction can cause morbidity and mortality in patients and because of the different conclusions about the prevalence of thyroid function test abnormalities existed in previous studies. Methods:In this cross sectioned study, 90 patients undergoing chronic hemodialysis in Vasei hospital of sabzevar in year 1394 for Thyroid function test (TT4-TT3-FT4-FT3-TSH) were studied and related disorders of thyroid function tests in chronic hemodialysis patients by age, sex, level of education , underlying disease(diabetes, hypertension, polycystic kidney) and kidney dialysis duration were investigated. Results:Among 90 chronic haemodialysis patients who were studied, 13 Persons (14.44%) had abnormal thyroid function tests (including 10 males and 3 females),77 Persons (85.55%) had normal thyroid function tests. Conclusion:According to the P-Value achieved, there are no significant relationship between the prevalence of thyroid dysfunction in chronic hemodialysis patients and their age, gender, their education level, diabetes, hypertension, polycystic kidney and their duration of dialysis but more extensive studies and suggested. key words:Thyroid dysfunction, Chronic Kidney Disease, Hemodialysis.
