Abstract
The comparison effect of progressive muscle relaxation with guided imagery on depression in patients with type 2 diabetes Introduction: The nurse, due to the role of care, education and consulting, have many opportunities to prevent psychological and mental complications in several chronic disease, such as diabetes, and as an important member of healthcare team plays a key role in teaching relaxation techniques. Aim: current study was conducted to assess the comparison of effect of progressive muscle relaxation with guided imagery on depression in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methodology: In this randomized, controlled, clinical trial, 120 patients 35-65 years old, were randomly allocated to the three groups of Progressive muscle relaxation, Guided imagery and control (n=40 for each group), who referred to diabetic center of Sabzevar city in 2015 . Data collected using the the beck depression inventory and Demographic questionnaires. The Validity was assured using face and content validity and the reliability was assured using α- cronbachs method. Progressive muscle relaxation and Guided imagery done twice a week during 6 weeks. The Beck Depression Inventory was completed at the end of the sixth week again. Data was analyzed by using descriptive statistics, Chi-square and One-way ANOVA tests were using the software SPSS (version 16). Results: One way ANOVA reflected a significant difference between the three groups (p< 0.001). Turkeys' post-hoc test showed that there was a significant difference between Progressive muscle relaxation and control group(p< 0.001) and Guided imagery and control group(p< 0.001).there was no significantly different between Both intervention groups (p=0.28). Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, Both intervention Are equally effective on reduced depression. Therefore, its use in depression in patients with type 2 diabetes is recommended.
