Abstract

Title: The effect of sinbiotics (prebiotics and probiotics) with standard phototherapy on treatment of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia with 2-14 days of age in compare with standard phototherapy. Backgraond: Neonatal jaundice is a natural phenomen in first week of life. The most common reason of neonatal hospitalization is hyperbilirubinemia. Phototherapy with blue light is the standardtreatment of neonatal jaundice.sinbiotics are the products that can replace intestinal normal floura and make their subestra for increasing neonatal fecal materials and decreasing entrohepatic cycle. At alst they decrease neonatal jaundice. Methods and materials: In this clinical trial study 80 neonates admitted in neonatal section of sabzevar's Heshmatie hospitalwith serum bilirubin level upper than 15 mg/dl with 2-14 days of age that have inclusion criteria have chosen. Then devided to 2 group accidentally. In control group neonates treated with standard phototherpy for 24 hours and in sinbiotic group in addition to phototherapy, sinbiotics in the forme of pedilact drops daily untile 3 dayes have given them. The bilirubin level checked daily in 1,2,3 days after addmition and compare with control group then data analysed with spss soft ware. Results: In this study neonatal gestational age is 37-42 weeks and the mean of their age is 5/5 days and the mean of their weight is 3185/62 grams. The most decreasing level of bilirubin in intervention group in third day after using sinbiotics was in male neonates, neonate’s with O blood group and negative RH, breast feeding neonates and neonate’s mothers with O blood group. Conclusion: This study shows that sinbiotics are effective in treatment of neonatal jaundice and their effect begin from 3 days after use. Key words: Prebiotics, Probiotics, Neonatal jaundice.
