Abstract

introduction: Inguinal Hernia is the most common emergency surgery.Pain and nausea is a common symptom of general anesthesia and its control with non-pharmacological methods is one of the most important goals of nursing. Recognizing and relieving pain is one of the most important responsibilities of nurses. one of the ways to increase the quality of nursing care is evidence-based method. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of ambulation according to the evidence-based method on nausea and pain in patients after inguinal hernia surgery in Imam hosein(as) hospital, shahrood. Method:This single-blind clinical trial was conducted on 60 patients who underwent inguinal hernia surgery in Shahrood imam-Hossein-Hospital in 1395. Patients were randomly divided into two groups: test and control.intensity of nausea and pain was measured at 3,6,9 and 12 hours after surgery and before discharge time. The data were analyzed in SPSS16 using Fisher test, likelihood ratio, Kolmogorov Smironov,K2Pearson,K2Friedman,and Wilcoxon. Findings: The pain intensity among the experimental group's participants was less than control group's at the first step , before the first ambulation (6.30 versus 6.50). At the second step , befor the second ambulation , the experimental group s participants suffered from less pain intensity in comparison with the control group (5.40 versus 6.83) , and also the pain intensity at the third step was less in experimental group than the control group (5.27 versus 7.00) . At the fourth step , before the fourth ambulation , the experimental group's participants felt a less pain intensity than the control group's patients (5.37 versus 6.57) . At the fifth step , befor dismissal , the adnauseam intensity in the experimental group was also less than control group (3.57 versus 5.77). Patients in the test group had significantly less nausea than the control group. Also, the frequency of vomiting in the two groups was significantly different between the two groups. Results: according to results, an evidence based procedure is effective in reducing the intensity of pain nausea and vomiting following inguinal hernia surgery. Considering the cost and fewer complications and ease of implementation of this method, it can be recommended as a care strategy in reducing pain, nausea.
