Abstract

Background: Congenital anomalies account for about 20% of neonatal mortality. These abnormalities increase the abortion, death and mortality of infants and infants, and, also, impose excessive costs on health care systems. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the possible risk factors of congenital anomalies in patients referred to the ultrasound clinic of Dr Shahreanei and Shahid Mobini Hospital in Sabzevar Method: This case-control study was carried out on pregnant women referred to Maternal Maternity Hospital of Shahid Mobini Hospital and sonography clinic of Dr Shahreanei during 1395-1395. Census sampling was used. At first, all eligible pregnant women were evaluated for congenital malformation and 61 infants with congenital malformation and 122 healthy infants were selected. All participants were interviewed using a self-made check list based on risk factors. The data were analyzed by SPSS 21 software and analyzed by Fisher exact test (Chi-square test) and OR report at a significance level of 0.05< P. Results: This study was performed on 183 subjects including 122 mothers with healthy infants and 61 mothers with congenital anomalies. There was no significant relationship between fetal abnormalities and gestational age, unwanted pregnancy, history of preeclampsia, pregnancy infection, history of trauma, and exposure to radiation/internet. In contrast, those with fetal abnormalities had lower marital age (P= 0.001), lower the age of the first pregnancy (P= 0.001), lower the number of pregnancies (P= 0.001), higher abortions (P= 0.001), higher incidence anomalies in first-degree (p= 0.001), higher parental relationship (P= 0.01), higher polyhdramnios (P= 0.04), higher non teratogen drug consumption (P= 0.001), higher frequency of cigarette exposure (P= 0.001) had a higher incidence of systemic disease (P= 0.02) compared to normal delivery. Conclusion: Newborn births with fetal abnormalities have a remarkable frequency in the studied population, most of which included musculoskeletal and digestive systems, as well as genetic disorders including Down syndrome and other trisomy. The most important risk factors including hereditary causes such as the birth of a baby with fetal malformations and familial marriage and environmental causes such as drug use and exposure to tobacco during pregnancy were among the most important risk factors for these disorders
