Abstract
Title: The Effects of oral agar Gel in reduce severity of Nonehemolytic jaundice in normal term neonates Born in Mobinini Hospital Sabzevar Background: Icter is the most common disorder needing medical attention in neonates.This study was conducted with the aim of investigation the effects of oral agar Gel in reduce severity of Nonehemolytic jaundice in normal term neonates Born in Mobinini Hospital Sabzevar. Methods:This clinical trial was conducted in 96-97 in Mobini Hospital in Sabzevar on 140 icteric neonates. Newborns were randomly assigned into two groups; oral agar gel group (receiving 500 mg agar in 2.5 cc distilled water every 6 hours for 3 days) and placebo( receiving 2.5 cc distilled water every 6 hours for 3 days). Bilirubin was checked for 5 days by BikiCheck and data were analyzed by SPSS V.22 using Chi-Square and T-test. Results: In this study 140 neonates were evaluated. 48 % were girls. In overall, 31 % in agar group and 54 % in placebo group had bilirubin of more than 13 mg/dl and were excluded from the study (P=0.006). Conclusions: In overall, agar reduces the need for phototherapy in icteric neonates significantly.
