Abstract

Introduction: Patient education is a most important working aspects of nurses. Nurses are able to change patient`s life, and be helpful in decreasing stress signs and hospitalization numbers and increasing life quality, disease diagnosis, and effectiveness through education. The present study has been accomplished to consider the relation between skill score and nurses` educational performance in Vasei Hospital of Sabzevar.Methodology: This descriptive-analytical study has been accomplished in Vasei educational and clinical center of Sabzevar in 2016. Research society was composed of 113 nurses working in Vasei Hospital. Data was collected through nurses` educational performance, skill, and demographic information questionnaire in three fields of admission, hospitalization, and discharging periods. Then data was analyzed by SPSS software (v.20), Spearman, Mann-Whitney, and Kruskal-Wallis`s descriptive-correlated tests.Results: The results of educational skill in nurses indicated that nurses have got the most skillful activity in familiarity with ward (84.1), taking drugs method and dose (69), and educating self-caring skills (66.4). Also, the results of educational performance in nurses signified that the patient are provided with most learning in admission, hospitalization and relieving to general rules of wards (62.8), taking drug method (67.3), and visiting other healthcare centers (66.4). There was a positive significant relation between skill score and performance score of educating patients (r=0.62, p<0.001).Conclusion: This study indicated that nurses hand down what they have learned through educating the patient to them. . On the other hand, the status of patient education in two areas of admission and discharge time is good for nurses, but in case of admission, the status of patient education in some cases was not good. Therefore, healthcare authorities should take some actions to improve awareness among nurses.
