Radioprotective drugs, compounds that when administered before radiation, they reduce cell damages and death caused by ionizing radiation. These compounds can before irradiation in patients Radiotherapy, staff and community members in the event of accidents related jobs of radiation. The first categories that were evaluated radioprotective drugs, synthetic compounds containing sulfur. One of these compounds is amiofostine in preventing the complications radiotherapy-induced oral mucosa has been approved, but because of the severe side effects such as nausea, vomiting and hypotension, its use is limited. Therefore, any access to drug low complication is very important. In this regard, natural products, especially medicinal plants can be used as the appropriate medication be investigated. Natural products from plants in Asia are mainly studied. That extracts of plants evaluated suggested mechanism for their antioxidant properties, although the effect of stimulating the immune system effect on proliferation of hematopoietic system also has been reported. These products compared to synthetic compounds such as amiofostine effect less protection, but are also less adverse effects. This article reviews the research on this class of compounds pays and evaluate them has advantages and disadvantages.
