Abstract

Background and purpose: Medication errors by nurses are considered as one of the most common cause of death in many countries. This study has been accomplished to survey the reasons of giving the wrongdrug by nurses in public wards of Sabzevar hospitals.Materials and method: This study is a descriptive-analytical research with random sampling which is performed on 96 nurses working in public wards of Sabzevar hospitals in 2015. The data was collected through observations and standard check lists of oral and injectable drugs in reference book of nursing services. To analyze the, SPSS (ver. 20), Fischer, Chi-squared, Kruskal-Wallis and ANOVA tests are used. Findings: The main reason for making mistake in drugging is concerned with management (the lack of balance between nurses and patients). There was a significant difference between the name of hospitals and medicationerrors by nurses in injectable drugs (p=0.002), but no significant difference was reported between working shift and drug errors (p=0.812).Conclusion: As the authorities confirm the lack of personnel as the greatest reason of drug errors, therefore this problem can be solved by obtaining authorization from nursing organization in hiring some nurses and making them work in healthcare system.
