Abstract

The assessment of incidence of Acute Renal Failure and its Risk Factors after admission in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Vaseei Hospital of Sabzevar in a Six-month period. Background: Acute Renal failure (ARF) is an independent risk factor for mortality in hospitalized patients. Acute renal failure occurs in 5 percent of emergency unit patients and 30 percent of ICU patients causes significant increase in admission time in ICU patients .This study is performed to assess the incidence of ARF and its risk factors in ICU patients Vasei Hospital of Sabzevar in a six month period (April to December of 2016). Methods and Materials: This cross sectional study was performed on 231 patients admitted in ICU of Vasei Hospital of Sabzevar. The samples were taken with census method and patient’s tests were studied. Demographic features, personal data and tests` results were recorded and then analysed by SPSS. Findings: The incidence of ARF was 28.1%. (Men: 30.14% and women: 25.26%). The mean of patients` age with ARF was 71.98 years. Most of the patients did not have university education, lived in cities and were not smokers or opium addicted. About half of them had anemia and most of them had normal serum random glucose and normal blood pressure during their admissions. Most of the patients didn not receive venous contrast agents and their nutritions were oral with nasogastric tube and recieved nephrotoxic antibiotics during admission. Most of the patients had used non nephrotoxic drugs and had history of disease dependent to ARF as shown in past medical history. Conclusion: The incidence of ARF was 28.1% that was realated to age, education level, opium addiction and blood pressure. Key words: Acute renal failure, ICU, Risk factor.
