Abstract
The seroepidemiologic evaluation of brucellosis in outpatient referring to the laboratory of sabzevar university clinic during 1389-1392 Background: Brucellosis is an old but still the most common zoonotic disease. In our country, Iran, brucellosis is a major reason of health problems and economical losses. In order to make a comprehensive plan, we need to have accurate statistics and seroepidemiological information. This study was performed to evaluate seroepidemiology of brucellosis in outpatient referring to the laboratory of Sabzevar university clinic during the years of 1389-1392. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 1775 of outpatients referred to the lab as suspicious cases to have brucellosis. They had a complete panel of brucellosis serologic tests (including WRIGHT, 2ME, COOMBS WRIGHT).The data were recorded by the PTN software of the laboratory .The test results and demographic features were recorded in data forms. The data were analyzed via STATA software. Results: Mean age of the referred people was 42.3 years old, and 63.21% of them were women. The prevalence of brucellosis among referred patients, based on IRAN’s national guideline for brucellosis was 25.63%. 61.1% of the infected patients were women, while 27% of women and 25% of men referred had brucellosis. The disease was more common in summer and in July compared to other seasons. The most common age group was between the ages of 30-50 years old. Conclusion: This study showed that brucellosis is a prevalent endemic zoonotic disease disease in Sabzevar and still is considered a major health problem.
