Abstract

Title:The relationship between impaired glucose tolerance and heart failure in hospitalized patients Heshmatieh Sabzevar hospital Background: Heart failure is a serious condition with high prevalence .The costs are very high, reaching up to 2% of the total health costs in the developed countries. For a long time a link between diabetes mellitus and heart failure has been recocnized. but the association between impaired glucose tolerance and heart failure has not been proven .The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between impaired glucose tolerance and heart failure. Methods and Materials: This case-control study was performed on 70 case hospitalized patients with non-diabetic heart failure and 70 control patients at Hashemateyeh Sabzevar Hospital, which had inclusion criteria. Demographic characteristics, smoking, hypertension, family history of heart disease and fasting blood glucose tests, blood glucose were measured with oral glucose tolerance test and ejection fraction were recorded and then analysed by STATA software. Findings: The mean of glucose was 149 mg / dl in the case group and 131 mg / dL in the control group and the mean fasting blood glucose was 98 mg / dl in the case group and 90 mg in the control group; 44% of patients and 27% of controls had impaired glucose tolerance and 37% of cases and 22% of controls had impaired fasting glucose disorder; The number of patients with hypertension in the case group was twice that of the control group. There was a meaningful relationship between variables including impaired glucose tolerance, impaired fasting glucose d, hypertension and heart failure . Mean of BMI was 23 in two groups, and in two groups less than 30% had cigarette smoking and these two variables had no significant relationship with heart failur. Conclusion: impired Glucose tolerance and fasting glucose tolerance are significantly related to heart failure, and it is recommended to control and diagnose these disorders in susceptible patients. Screening using oral glucose tolerance test is recommended Key words: Heart failure, Impaired glucose toleranse, Realationship.
