Abstract
Depression and risk factors among fertile and infertile couples it Introduction: Infertility is a chronic disease which can influence both genders. Infertile couples will face various complication either because of infertility treatment or the psychological effects of infertility itself. Depression is one of the main emotional disturbances which is seen among infertile women. While most of available studies provide different and unique findings about the effect of depression and its possible risk factors in different regions; conducting regional studies in order to evaluate the effect of this issue on women’s life seems necessary. So, in present research we are trying to evaluate depression among fertile and infertile couple and determine possible depression risk factors. Material and methods: This case-control study was done with 75 infertile and 75 fertile women who were referred to the Sabzevar infertility Clinic and randomly assigned to enter the study. Among study population, infertility was defined as not having any child for at least one year. Beck's depression questionnaire was used for assessing depression. The severity of depression with each of these variables will be analyzed and analyzed by SPSS software. Results: The mean age on participants was 31.61 years and the mean duration of marriage was 9.71 years. 28% of infertile women had major depressive symptoms while only 6.6% of fertile women had major depressive symptoms. Respectively 16% and 4% of infertile women had a history of depression. Having an occupational and longer marriage durations were significantly lower in depressed infertile women. Conclusion: In our country, infertile women shows higher rate of depression in contrast to fertile ones. Our study demonstrated this fact. While marriage duration and occupation has great impact on infertile women depression, providing counseling lessons as well as appropriate occupation for infertile women seems necessary.
