Abstract
The effect of reminiscence on loneliness and happiness in the elderly living in a nursing home in Sabzevar city in 2017 Abstract Introduction: One of the psychosocial problems that is less attention in the elderly is loneliness. Loneliness is one of the main indicators of well-being that manifests itself with a severe feeling of emptiness, helplessness, emancipation and bisexism. One of the main concepts in positive thinking psychology, which is itself one of the new branches of psychology, is happiness. Group reminiscence are one of a kind of group psychotherapy. Reminiscence plays a significant role in supporting the mental health of the elderly and progresses in aging and has long-term effects on improving the quality of life of the elderly so that seniors expect more happy years in their lives. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of reminiscence on loneliness and happiness in elderly residents of Sabzevar mothers' elderly. Materials and Methods: The research units of this study were 41 elderly residents of Sabzevar mothers' homes. The available sampling method was used to select the research units. The research units were randomly assigned to two groups of reminiscence and group talk. The group reminiscences were held for an 8-week an 60-90 minutes session every week. To eliminate the effects of the group, the group talk were held every week for a 90-60 minute session for two months. Loneliness was measured using the UCLA questionnaire and happiness by using the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire OHQ in two previous steps and immediately after the intervention. Data were analyzed by SPSS software version 16 and T-test, Mann-Whitney, Wilcoxon and Shapirowilk tests. Results: Based on the results of this study, the mean of loneliness in the reminiscence group before and after the intervention was 64.09 ± 12.21 and 52.57 ± 17.83 after intervention, which was significant (P <0.05) And in group talk before and after intervention was 59.15 ± 11.86 and 45.30 ± 18.29, respectively. This difference was significant (P <0.05). Also, the average rate of happiness in the reminiscence group before the intervention was 15.66 ± 15.53 and 48.90 ± 27.15 after the intervention, which was significant (P <0.05) and in the talk group The prevalence of the group was 26.55 ± 25.14 and 54.15 ± 26.78 after the study, which was also significant (P <0.05). Discusstion: Based on the results of this study, there is no difference between the effect of group reminiscencezation and group talk sessions on reducing loneliness and increasing the level of happiness of elderly people.
