Abstract
Title: The relationship between emotional intelligence and academic achievement in students of Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences Background and Purpose: The problem of success or failure in studying is one of the most important concerns of any educational system in all societies, inasmuch as the success and academic achievement of students in each society indicate the success of the educational system of universities in The objectives of the university should be. Emotional intelligence can be considered as one of the factors influencing various aspects of people's life, including academic achievement. Regarding the contradictory results of research on the relationship between emotional intelligence and academic achievement, the present study aimed to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and academic achievement of students in Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive-correlational study done on 400 students of Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences. The instrument for collecting data was Emery's Emotional Inventory Questionnaire (33 questions). For data analysis, descriptive statistics and regression analysis, independent t-test and Anova were used. Results: There is not a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and academic achievement of students. There is also a positive and significant relationship between self-esteem component and academic achievement and there is a significant negative correlation between self-control component and academic achievement. Conclusion: Due to self-esteem and academic achievement, professors can provide the ground for their academic achievement by reinforcing students' inner motivation.
