Abstract

The effect of stress inoculation training on the medication error of nurses. Abstract: Background & Aim: nursing health care system is one of the most common mistakes.One of the factors in the incidence of medication errors, job stress, so stress management and efficient use of preventive methods necessary to appear. The present study was conducted to determine the effect of a Stress Inoculation training on the medication error of nurses. Materials and methods:This study, a field trial with two groups.The population included 100 nurses in medical, surgical and pediatric hospitals constitute Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences. Nurses stratified sampling method based on inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected using multi-stage permutation blocks were divided into two groups. The intervention stress inoculation training, (consisting of two-day workshops for groups of 8 hours a week that) was.The data collecting tool demographic and form a self-made job, to record medication errors during two months ago and `'one a month after the intervention was completed by nurses. Data using the Mann-Whitney test, chi-square and t-test and generalized estimating equations with SPSS software version 16 and SAS version 9.1 was analyzed. Results:The mean of medication errors in the intervention group before the workshop Stress management 5/65 ± 2/30 and a half months was 2/68 ± 1/57. And control group the mean medication error before the workshop Stress management 5/71 ± 2/93 and a half months was 6/59 ± 3/45. Analysis of data between the averages medication errors samples before and after the intervention groups showed significant differences (P<0/05). Conclusion:Stress inoculation training can reduce the incidence of medication errors. Keywords: stress inoculation training, medication error, nurse, stress.
