Abstract
The association between nutrients intake with High sensitivity C-reactive protein in elderly nursing home in Sabzevar Abstract Background: High-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) is reliable detection hidden inflammation and infection instrument of the body. Poor nutritional status of the elderly with increased serum levels of CRP and subsequent related systemic inflammation. Inflammation is potential mechanism of diet effection on the development of chronic diseases. This study aimed to examine the association between intake of nutrients and high sensitivity C-reactive protein in elderly nursing home in Sabzevar. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was done on 105 Sabzevar nursing home residents by stratified sampling method. Anthropometric measurements, body mass index (BMI) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) were calculated. Each person's nutrient intake was taken by using 24-hour dietary recall and food frequency collected for three consecutive days and analyzed by the software Nutritionis IV. Blood samples were collected to measure serum hs-CRP. Data were analyzed by using SPSS software, descriptive statistics, correlation and regression. Results: In this study, a significant positive correlation was seen between total fat and cholesterol intake with hs-CRP (P≤0.05) and a significant inverse correlation between fiber intake, vitamins B1, B2, E, C, magnesium and selenium with hs-CRP ( P≤0.05). Among the anthropometric indices, there was the serum high sensitivity C- reactive protein and BMI, a statistically significant correlation (P≤0.05). Conclusion: According to results of this study, it seems that diets rich in fiber, antioxidant vitamins such as vitamins C and E, magnesium and selenium be useful in reducing systemic inflammation in the elderly.
