Abstract

Introduction: According to recent epidemiologic studies, the prevalence of breast cancer is growing in our country and becoming a great concern for related researchers. While different studies in different regions and population reported variable prognostic factors for breast cancer, this study aimed to evaluate effective factors for breast cancer survival in an oncology center of Mashhad city in a five-year period. Material and methods: Medical and demographic information of all female breast cancer patients who were referred to Reza Radiation Oncology Center of Mashhad city between 1386 to1390 were used in this cross sectional study and the effect of different variables on their survival was evaluated. Survival analysis and cox regression tests were used in this study and confidence interval of 0.05 was considered. Results: Mean age of participants’ was 48 years. Mean overall survival of patients younger than 48 years of age was 51.96 months and 52.93 for those who were older. There was not any significant difference between these two groups (P=0,336). Cancer stage and estrogen receptor presentation were two main factors affecting patients overall survival in this study. Conclusion: In present study, survival rates of breast cancer is favorable in contrast to other similar studies and screening of mentioned effective factors on survival in peak age of breast cancer diagnosis is suggested.
