Abstract

The survey effect of Pilates exercise on self - esteem among female ‎nursing students Background: Self-esteem that is to improve the mental health, Studies have shown that self-esteem of nursing students, especially females is not desirable. Sports programs play an important role in various aspects of mental health. the aim of present study is to investigate the effects of Pilates exercises on self-esteem of female nursing students. Method: This study is a Field Trial (single blinded) and has been performed on 62 persons of sabzevar female nursing students that have moderate to low self-esteem in 2014. Then after selecting by convenience methode, were devided randomly in 2 groups: experimental (n = 32) and control (n = 30). The experimental group did the Pilates exercise at eight weeks and. The control group continued their daily activities. Finally, after re measurement of self-esteem with Using the Coopersmith Inventory, data was analysed by Spss software (version 18), descriptive statistics, independent t, paired t-test, vilcoxon, and covariance test. Resault: In this study, 61/3 percent of the sample were single, and the average age in the experimental and control groups respectively, 21/66 ±1/17 and 21/79 ± 1/02 was also the average of self-seteem before intervention in experimental‎ group was 90/09 ‏±‏8/20 and in control‎ group‎ was 92/80 ‏±‏9/22, this average at the end of study in experimental‎ group ‎became 100/34 ‏±‏7/72 and in ‎ control‎ group became ‎94/10 ‏±‏9/22 and this difference was signiffican (p<0/002). Conclusions: performance of pilates exercise is effective to improvmet of female nursing students' self-esteem, therefore, as an attractive method and no have serious side effects for increment the self-esteem of the students is suggested.
