Abstract
Background: Alopecia areata (AA) is a common cause of noncicatricial alopecia that etiologic factor of this disease not yet recognized. The objective of this study was the association between Thyroid hormones changes and alopecia areata. Methods: We analyzed medical records of 130 patients, in Sabzevar clinic from 2016-2017. Patients having AA considered as case group while 65 normal people who had not any form of AA considered as control group. Collected data were analyzed statistically in SPSS software 21th version. Results: Findings showed that the prevalence of TSH in the patients group was 10.8% in comparison with control group. Also, 9.2% of patients had T4 disorder. Abnormal T4 and TSH were significantly higher in case group. There was significant relationship between Thyroid hormones changes and alopecia areata. Conclusion: Paraclinical thyroid disorders were significantly higher in the alopecia areata patients than in normal population, which can be considered in the treatment of these patients.
