Abstract

The effect of curcumin supplementation on systemic inflammation and lipid profiles in hemodialysis patients Abstract Background: Increased inflammatory and hyperlipidemic factors in dialysis patients have a variety of side effects such as heart disease. Patients with chronic renal failure have a high risk of cardiovascular disease compared to other populations. So that in the early stages of kidney failure, the chances of developing cardiovascular disease in these patients The progression of the disease to the end stage is inadequate, so the present study aims to investigate the effect of curcumin Serum lipid profile and systemic inflammation in hemodialysis patients I became. Materials and methods: In this clinical trial study, 64 hemodialysis patients were selected from Montserry Hospital in Mashhad. Sampling in this research was done by random allocation method in the form of permutational blocks. Then, a supplement group received 80 mg of curcumin for 2 months and the other group received placebo. Before and after the intervention, after 12 hours of fasting blood cc5, blood samples were taken from patients for serum hs-CRP, triglyceride, cholesterol, HDL-C and LDL-C parameters. Data were then entered into SPSS 16 software and analyzed by Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Chi-square, Fisher test and T-test. Results: According to the results of the analysis, the results of the assumptions under study show that the supplementation of curcumin decreases serum LDL-C concentrations (P <0.05) and increases serum HDL-C (P = 0.003) in hemodialysis patients and has no significant effect on On serum hs-CRP, serum cholesterol and serum triglyceride levels, there is no hemodialysis (P> 0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that curcumin supplement can be effective in preventing heart disease and can be used as a complementary therapy.
