Abstract

Prevalence of primary signs and types of ovarian mass in patients referred to Sabzevar Mobini Hospital between the years of 2008 untill 2016 Abstract Background and aim: Ovarian tumors are the most common form of neoplasm in women. The common and different symptoms of these ovarian masses cause the frequent referral of patients to doctors and cost to patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of primary signs of ovarian mass in patients referred to Mobini Hospital in Sabzevar. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional study. The population studied included all individuals who visited Mobinin Hospital between the yaers of 2008 -2016 . 179 subjects were included in the sample. These individuals were those who were diagnosed with laparatomic surgery and had been diagnosed with ovarian masses. Data were collected using a checklist and demographic questionnaire. Collected data was entered into the computer using SPSS software. Results: The mean age in the case group was 31.44 ± 11.02. Of the 179 samples, 84 cases were not under laparotomy (47.5%). Concerning the type of mass, the results showed that among the ones undergoing laparotomy, the highest prevalence was related to follicular cyst (14.7%) and then epidermoid cyst (13.7%). Serous cysts of adenoma, chocolate cysts, trematoma, adenoma, mucinous syndrome and dysgenomyomy each with only one case had the least amount among the subjects. Results showed that most patients complained of abdominal pain (67%). Also, based on the results of mean age, there is significant difference between the two groups. The mean age in the group with higher mass (p = 0.004). Conclusion: Considering the high cost of treatment and side effects of drugs and psychological stresses in these patients, the evaluation of ovarian masses with regard to treatment and better prognosis is very important in the case of early diagnosis.
