Abstract

Background: chronic renal failure is a progressive and irreversible degeneration of kidneys which lead to physical and psychological consequences, one of these complications is anxiety.Various intervention can be used to reduce anxiety level which contains Pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions. One of the non-pharmacologic interventions that can be used as a nursing intervention to reduce anxiety level is foot reflexology. Aim of study: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the The effect of foot reflexology on anxiety in patients undergoing hemodialysis Methods: This study was a randomized clinical trial . 80 patients admitted to the dialyze center of Imam Ali Hospital were selected according to inclusion criteria by Simple random sampling in Intervention and control groups.reflexology as intervention was done in intervention group before hemodialysis and Spielberger questionnaire were completed before and after the hemodialysis for both group . Then results were analyzed with ANOVA, chi-square and t-tests in SPSS 19. Results: The findings of this study showed that in explicit anxiety level, there were significant differences in the intervention and control groups. (P<0/0001). But it shows no significant effect on trait anxiety level. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, foot reflexology in the intervention groups reduced explicit anxiety level in intervention group.
