Abstract

Introduction: The extreme urinary retention is a urology urgency. The urinary retention after operation is one of the commonest effects after surgery. Recent studies showed that advantages of using the Alpha Bloker medicine in the POUR treatment. The aim of such a study was to compare the preventive effect of Tamsulosin in comparison with placebo on urinary retention after treatment. Methods: That was a probation one sided, blinded clinical and random study. This study has been done on 152 patients who have been electively under Cesarean surgery. The patients have been divided into two groups of seventy six persons and the first group was given three doses of Tamsulosin of 0/4mg six hours before surgery, Before anesthesia and six hours after it.The second group was given the same placebo. Then the patients were under examination twnty four hours after the surgery. The information was analysed by the SPSS softwarethe twenty-first version. The meaningful level was less than 0.05(P<0.05) Results: The average age of the patients was between 30.48 +_ 4.64. In the group of intervention only two of seventy six and in the control group only thirteen of seventy six had retention and the percentage of it was reduced from 17.1 to 2.6 percent. The relation of consciousness in the two groups did not a meaningful variance. Discussion and Conclusion: The study showed that the treatment with Tamsulosin can reduce the urinary retention and need for catheterization after surgery Keywords: Extreme Urinary Retention, Tamsulosin , placebo, Cesarean
