Abstract
Title: Evaluation of Methadone and other opiums induced arrhythmia in electrocardiogram of opiums poisoning patients in Sabzevar Vasei hospital in years2015-16 Background: Iran has about 2 million opiums and drugs addicts causing serious socioeconomic burdens. There are currently 3000 drug treatment centers in the country that use methadone for treatment. The widespread use of this substances will cause of a lot of complications. In this study Methadone and other opiums induced arrhythmia in which case of overdose of these substances considered which if neglected can be fatal. The aim of this study is evaluating of methadone and other opiums induced arrhythmia in poisoning patients. Materials andMethods: This descriptivecross-sectional study was performed on all hospitalized with opiums and methadone poisoning in Vasei hospital, Sabzevar, Iran in 2015-2016.also the collected data includes demographic information and past medical history of the patients that were in our checklist. Findings: Among the 234 patients with opiums and methadone poisoning, 58% of patients had opiums overdose and 42% had methadone overdose. Most of patients was older than 45 years (close to 50%). 66% was male and 71% was married.61% had a positive history of addiction and 44% was smokers. At the end of this study the prolonged QTc values in the methadone toxicity group were 54% while in the opiums poisoning group 60% of patients had a long QTc (over than 470 ms). There was a significant relationship between this substances overdose's induced arrhythmia with old age(age>45), female sex, arrhythmia positive history and cardiac, hepatic and genetic disease but there was no relationship with marriage, smoking, addiction and inhabitation status (P< /05). Conclusion: The overdose of opioid and methadone is a serious problem and the solution understands that symptoms and complications including cardiac arrhythmia which is evitable to become aware of the risk factors occurrence ofthese arrhythmias. Key words: methadone, opium, overdose, toxicity, poisoning, arrhythmia, QTc prolongation
