Abstract
Background and Aims: Creating an appropriate setting for development and actualization of students with different Scientific, social and cultural abilities is one of the responsive education package�s achievements in health reform plan. Whereas emotion regulation and management is one of the important needs of students and empowering them in this field is a necessity, this study investigates the relationship between emotion regulation strategies and personality factors in Big Five theory toward this goal. Materials and Methods: 370 participants from Hakim Sabzevari University of Iran filled out the emotion regulation questionnaire (ERQ) and the NEO-FFI. This study is of a descriptive and correlational type. T-test and Pearson correlation coefficient and one way analyze Variance were employed to analyze the data. Results: Statistical analysis of the results indicated a significant positive relationship between neuroticism and suppression and a negative significant relationship between neuroticism and extraversion. There was a positive significant relationship between reappraisal and extraversion, conscientious and a negative significant relationship between reappraisal and neuroticism. There was no significant relationship between reappraisal and suppression, which indicated that they were used independently. The result of T-test demonstrated a significant difference between men and women in use of suppression (mean = 3.31 for women and mean = 3.66 for men, Sig = 0.041).The results of one-way ANOVA revealed that there were significant differences between different majors in using suppression. Conclusion: Individuals with different personality traits use different strategies to regulate their emotions.
